Becoming a nurse fulfills a life-long dream for me. Many obstacles cropped up during my two years of nursing school: one son went to boot camp, the other was called up to active duty and deployed; my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer; I fell off a ladder and messed up my legs for a time; I developed a severe case of pneumonia 3 months before the end of school.
By the grace of God, along with a hefty dose of love/support from friends (plus fabulous antibiotics and crutches), I made it through. I studied harder than I ever did when I went to Butler. I was much more focused. And when I stop to think about what I accomplished, I'm really proud of myself.
The lesson? Set a goal and stick to it. Be prepared for roadblocks and find a way around them. And don't ever, EVER, give up on yourself.
